Can I pause the operations tips for a moment to talk about how heartbreaking running a business can be?
I'm currently experiencing a lot of change, personally, and it has me reflecting on the many ways my business has transformed over the years, often out of the blue and beyond my control.
When you create something from your heart that you are passionate about and want to present to the world to help others, you never think about the seasons you'll experience that are full of disappointment, learning curves, and sacrifice.
I've always been an "all-in" type of person, and when I started The Digital Jane, it was no different. I wanted to create something that would help female founders sustain their businesses, and it has grown to be much more than that. However, lately, I've been experiencing mixed emotions about what this next chapter will demand of me as the owner.
If you are in a season of change like me, here's what I'm doing differently this week, and I welcome you to try them, too.
I'm asking for and accepting help. This is a tough one for so many of us because we start alone, build alone, and get used to doing everything ourselves. This goes back to my newsletter about unspoken expectations. This week, give others the opportunity to say yes to you.
I'm not pretending everything is okay. I've always felt the pressure to have it all together and know how to push through and show up anyway. This week, I'm not forcing myself to do that. I'm taking a step back so I can return better.
This is an ongoing work in progress, but I'm letting the vision for my business take its form. Sometimes, we can be so locked into what we envision that it's hard for us to see the beauty in what IS going well. Take some time to appreciate the areas that are working well and brainstorm how you can nurture what isn't just yet.
I'm realigning with my why. Remember why you started in the first place. Pay attention to the subtle reminders that what you are creating is needed, and it can get better. This helps me in the toughest moments to remember what I'm doing it all for.
I'll be back to my regularly scheduled program next Tuesday; reply to this blog and let me know if it resonated and what you want to do differently this week.
Until next time, have a wonderful and productive week!
